Tutti Frutti

Wow what a wonderful display of produce we have available to us in the summer!

Don’t you just love it! Now’s the time to really get those 5-10 fruit and veg in each day. We are so fortunate to have this amazing variety available to us as the strawberries continue to produce, the plums and peaches become succulent and the courgettes explode into marrow size proportions!

Remember fruit should be kept down to 2-3 portions a day so as not to load your sugar levels but you know if you go over that occasionally don’t beat yourself up about it. The main thing is to enjoy your food and variety is the spice of life so enjoy what you eat, ditch the guilt and appreciate the food you eat to get the most out of it. As mentioned before your mindset plays an important role in how your food is absorbed by the body. But if you eat something sometimes (I hate the words indulge or treat as it triggers the guilt button) that might have a higher fat content or more sugar than usual, don’t beat yourself up about it.

We are conditioned from a young age that we could have a treat if we behaved in a particular way or rewarded if we were good or passed that exam! This then becomes our default button to want a treat to reward ourselves if we think we have been ‘good’. Or even worse we feel so bad about ourselves and our willpower when we feel we have indulged in something ‘naughty’. Food is not naughty. Food is not a treat. Food is needed by your body to repair and energise it.

We really have to move away from how advertising language is used on us. Remember they are marketing ploys to trick us into buying their products.

Instead you can choose foods that are going to help your body repair and re-energise. If you don’t know what they are then research it or see a holistic practitioner or nutritionist. It’s your body, your health and your life. You can decide what you put in it.

Let us know if you are struggling or if you have had some great successes changing your food choices.
